Welfare of Vulnerable Persons

Policy Guidelines

Coventry Sub Aqua Club

(BSAC Branch 058)

Coventry BSAC has a welfare policy to safeguard children under the age of 18 years. The policy is also to safeguard vulnerable persons older than 18 years and any other member of our club.

When working with children or vulnerable persons:

  • The welfare of vulnerable members is our first consideration. We aim to make activities fun, enjoyable and promote fair play. We will put the welfare of the child before performance goals and will take care to keep within their capabilities.
  • We encourage participation of parents, guardians and carers in activities involving children or vulnerable adults.
  • All members have the right to be protected from bad practice, neglect, bullying and all forms of emotional and physical abuse.
  • All members have the right to dignity and respect, including children. We will treat all members fairly and equitably.
  • We will not tolerate discrimination on the grounds of gender, marital status, race, colour, disability, sexuality, age, occupation, religion or political opinion.
  • We will not participate in or tolerate behaviour that frightens, degrades, embarrasses, demoralises or negatively affects a members self esteem.
  • We will not tolerate acts of aggression.
  • It is the duty of all members suspecting inappropriate behaviour and actions to act on any concern.
  • Suspicions and allegations of inappropriate behaviour will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.
  • We recognise recording of photographic images might be inappropriate. We comply with BSAC guidance on the making and use of images of children contained in 'BSAC Welfare of Vulnerable People Policy and Procedures' document.
  • Branch Welfare Officer(s) are available to provide information and advice on the protection of children and vulnerable persons.
